Dog Latin, Cod Latin, macaronic Latin, or mock Latin refers to the creation of a phrase or jargon in imitation of Latin, often by directly translating English words (or those of other European languages) into Latin without conjugation or declension.

- Küchenlatein (latinitas culinaria), auch Pseudolatein, ist im engeren Sinne eine spöttische Bezeichnung für ein als „schlecht“ oder „barbarisch“ geltendes Latein. An der Klassischen Antike geschulte Humanisten bezeichneten damit das aus ihrer Sicht „verderbte Mönchslatein“ des Mittelalters, im Gegensatz zum erneuerten Humanistischen Latein. Ihnen war jene (aus heutiger Sicht durchaus natürliche) Weiterentwicklung der spätantiken lateinischen Sprache ein Gräuel, und sie propagierten eine Rückkehr zum Stil Ciceros oder Caesars. Später überträgt sich der Ausdruck auch auf das frühneuzeitliche Vulgärlatein-Umgangsdeutsch-Potpourri, wie es sich etwa auch in Verwaltungssprache und Studentensprache findet.

Niet zelden is ook het Grieks als bron aan te wijzen voor de herkomst van begrippen in Pseudo-Latijn. Begrippen in het Latijn (of daarop lijkend) die worden gebruikt door artsen en apothekers zijn een voorbeeld van Pseudo-Latijn. Zij worden wel potjeslatijn genoemd. In letterproeven wordt wel een Pseudo-Latijnse zin aangetroffen die begint met Lorem Ipsum. Pseudo-Latijn wordt ook wel als grapje gebruikt, soms zelfs op gebouwen. Zo is er in Amsterdam aan het Kleine Gartmanplantsoen het volgende devies op de toegangspoort van de voormalige gevangenis te lezen: "Homo sapiens non urinat in ventum" - een verstandig mens plast niet tegen de wind in.
