Richard (Dick) Turpin (21 September 1705 – 7 April 1739) was an infamous English rogue and highwayman. Turpin engaged in poaching, burglary, cattle rustling, horse theft, highway robbery and murder before being executed in York. After his death he became the subject of legend, romanticised as dashing and heroic in English ballads and popular theatre of the 18th and 19th century and in film and television of the 20th century.

Han gifte sig 1728 och satte upp sin egen köttaffär i Buckhurst Hill i Essex. Han stal nötkreatur och får från lantbrukare i trakten, djur som han sedan slaktade och sålde i sin butik. När han upptäcktes slöt han sig till ett gäng smugglare nära Canvey Island. Turpin började sedan med inbrott tillsammans med Gregory's Gang i Epping Forest. 1735 blev Turpin stråtrövare i trakterna av södra London, och 1736 slog han sig ihop med Tom King. Turpins fräckhet och aktiviteter i Epping Forest och Hounslow Heath blev mycket omtalade. King avled 1737, och Turpin begav sig då till Lincolnshire och sedan vidare till Yorkshire. Där greps han och hängdes i York, befunnen skyldig till mordet på en värdhusvärd i Epping.
