- De instructione principis ("On the Education of a Monarch") is a Latin work by the 12th-13th century author Gerald of Wales. It is divided into three "Distinctions". The first contains moral precepts and reflections; the second and third deal with the history of the later 12th century, with a focus on the character and acts of king Henry II of England and especially his disputes with the kings of France, Louis VII and Philip II and with his own four sons, Henry the Young King, Geoffrey, Duke of Brittany, Richard, count of Poitou and John Lackland. Gerald was learned in classical, Biblical and medieval Latin literature and in this work cites the Bible, Servius (the commentator on Virgil), Gildas, the Itinerarium Regis Ricardi and many other works.
- De instructione principis (Om utdannelsen til en monark) er et latinsk verk av den walisiske forfatteren Gerald av Wales fra begynnelsen av 1200-tallet. Boken er delt i tre «Distinksjoner». Den første handler om moralske forskrifter og refleksjoner; den andre og tredje handler om historien på siste halvdel av 1100-tallet med fokus på karakteren og handlingene til kong Henrik II av England og spesielt hans strid med kongene av Frankrike, Ludvig VII og Filip II August, og med hans egne fire sønner, Henry den unge konge, Geoffrey, hertug av Bretagne, Rikard, grev av Poitou og Johan uten land. Gerald var lærd i klassisk, bibelsk og middelalderens latinske litteratur, og i dette verket siterer han Bibelen, Servius, Gildas, Itinerarium Regis Ricardi (en latinsk fortelling om Rikard av Englands korstog), og mange andre verker. I og med at hensikten var å oppdra monarken er verkets emne, spesielt i den såkalte første distinksjon, minner en del om det nesten samtidige norske middelalderverket Kongespeilet.
