David James Shaughnessy (also spelled Shaughnessey) is a British-born theatre and television director, producer and actor. His father was Alfred Shaughnessy, an English scriptwriter. He is best known for his work as writer and producer of Upstairs, Downstairs. His brother is the actor Charles Shaughnessy, best known as Maxwell Sheffield on the television show, The Nanny. His wife is former Days of our Lives writer Anne Schoettle. David and Anne had three daughter Amy, Katie and Josie.
