Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and Johns Hopkins University. In May 2009 President Obama named Mr. Rubenstein a member of the Smithsonian’s Board of Regents, the governing body of the Smithsonian Institution. He was elected to the Board of Trustees of the University of Chicago on May 31, 2007. On December 18, 2007, David Rubenstein purchased the last privately owned copy of the Magna Carta at Sotheby's auction house in New York for $21.3 million.. He has lent it to the National Archives in Washington D. C .
