David Olive (born 1937) FRS, is a British theoretical physicist. Olive made fundamental contributions to the string theory and duality theory. He was Professor of physics at Imperial College, London. He later moved to Swansea University to help set up the new theoretical physics group. He was awarded the Dirac Prize and Medal of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in 1997.

Seine Arbeit mit Gliozzi und Joel Scherk in den 1970er Jahren lieferte überzeugende Argumente für das Vorhandensein von Raum-Zeit-Supersymmetrie in der Theorie fermionischer Strings (NSR String). Mit Peter Goddard, Jean Nuyts und C. Montonen untersuchte er um 1977 auch magnetische Monopole und ihre (elektro-magnetischen) Dualitäten. Dieses Dualitäts-Konzept wurde später in der „zweiten Superstring-Revolution“ in den 1990er Jahren wichtig. In Zusammenarbeit mit Goddard untersuchte er außerdem die Darstellung den Stringtheorien zugrundeliegender unendlich dimensionaler Algebren. Olive ist Fellow der Royal Society in London. 1997 erhielt er mit Peter Goddard die Dirac-Medaille. Zu seinen Doktoranden zählt Neil Turok.
