Zur Vorbereitung hatte er 2004 auf dem Sundance Film Festival den Kurzfilm „Krumped“ vorgestellt, dessen Material teilweise in Rize eingeflossen ist. David LaChapelle lebt offen homosexuell und erhielt im Jahre 2006 den Vito Russo Award.
