David Held (born 1951) is a British political theorist and a prominent figure within the field of international relations. Together with Daniele Archibugi, he has been a key figure in the development of cosmopolitanism, and is a widely acclaimed scholar on issues of globalisation and global governance. He has held numerous Visiting Appointments in the United States, Australia, Canada and Spain, among other places. In the last five years he has lectured regularly on questions of democracy, global governance and globalization. David Held co-founded Polity press in 1984, which has become a leading publisher in the social sciences and humanities. Held is currently Graham Wallas Professor of Political Science and co-director of the Centre for the Study of Global Governance within the Government Department at the London School of Economics.
