Avant de rejoindre les Stranglers, Dave joua pendant plusieurs mois au sein de bases américaines situées en Allemagne. Son jeu de clavier s'est fait plus discret vers les années 1990 mais dans le dernier album du groupe - Norfolk Coast - le groupe est revenu aux sources musicalement, au grand plaisir et de Dave et des fans.
