David Robert Madison Genn is a musician and a member of Canadian rock group 54-40. Dave Genn was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on 2 March, 1969. His father is artist Robert Genn. Genn spent six years with the Matthew Good Band between 1995 and 2001, when he served as the band's lead guitarist and keyboardist, co-writing many of the band's songs. In 1995, through his association with Canadian punk musician Art Bergmann, Dave earned the first of his several Juno Awards.

In 1995, through his association with Canadian punk musician Art Bergmann, Dave earned the first of his several Juno Awards. With Genn co-writing much of the material and playing keyboard on a number of the tracks, Bergmann’s What Fresh Hell is This? won the award for "Best Alternative Album". He was a founding member of and guitarist for Vancouver hardcore veterans DSK (originally Dead Surf Kiss) in the early nineties. At that time he also played with local punk bands Lick the Pole and Sex with Nixon. He has toured with artists Strapping Young Lad, The Grapes of Wrath, Pure, The Lowest of the Low, Bif Naked, Emm Gryner, Sweatshop Union, Hedley and Theory of a Dead Man. In 2002 he co-wrote for, recorded with and was musical director for Holly McNarland’s Home is Where My Feet Are album and subsequent tour. His film score credits include the shorts Second Date and The Dogwalker written and directed by his brother James, as well as the National Geographic documentary Yukona. He has also worked with new West Coast Pepper Sands, The Dirtmitts, By a Thread, Lillix, Armchair Cynics, Honeysuckle Serontina, Marianas Trench, and Hedley. In February 2006 Genn married local Vancouver weather personality Tamara Taggart. They have two children, one boy and one girl. Their son has Down syndrome.
