Whilst at Tranmere he played in the 2000 Football League Cup Final. He is responsible for ending the career of Charlton Athletic striker Martin Pringle. His two footed lunge broke the leg of Pringle who was playing for Grimsby Town against Challinor's Stockport. Dave was only booked for the challenge that put Pringle in hospital. County Player/Manager Carlton Palmer admitted after the game that he deserved a red card and took disciplinary action into his own hand, while Charlton pursued legal actions against Challinor. However Challinor was not taken to court. He is currently a student at Salford University and is training to be a physiotherapist.
