Darjeeling tunnetaan teentuotantoalueena, sekä kapearaiteisesta rautatiestä, joka on UNESCOn maailmanperintökohde. Teetä kerätään neljä satoa vuodessa. Tee on lempeän makuista ja monet pitävät sitä maailman parhaana teelaatuna. Rautatie on vuodelta 1881, se on monessa asiassa maailman ensimmäinen ja se on edelleen käytössä.
