He struggled to break into the first team, making just two substitute appearances, and was allowed to join Burton Albion on loan in September 2005. However, injury struck in his fifth game when he fractured his fibia in a game against Aldershot; it was the second time he had broken his leg, the first being whilst playing for Mansfield's youth team. The injury kept him out of the squad for six months but, in light of his injury, he was given a new contract by Keith Alexander in April 2006.
