  • Daniel Andrews (born 6 July 1972) is an Australian politician. He is the Minister for Health in the Brumby Labor Government. He has been an Australian Labor Party member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly since November 2002, representing the electorate of Mulgrave, and was re-elected in November 2006. In the second term of the Bracks Government (2002-2006), he served as the Parliamentary Secretary for Health. He became the Minister for Gaming, Minister for Consumer Affairs and Minister Assisting the Premier on Multilcultural Affairs following the re-election of the Labor Government for a third term on 25 November 2006, and became the Minister for Health following John Brumby's ascension to the premiership. The next election will be a challenge for the minister as Victorian paramedics who feel poorly treated by the current government plan to actively campaign against him in his electorate. Andrews was educated at Galen College, Wangaratta and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1996 from Monash University. After graduating, Andrews became an electorate officer for federal Labor MP Alan Griffin. He worked at the party's head office from 1999 to 2002, initially as an organiser, and then as assistant state secretary. Andrews has held many other positions within the Party's structures including branch secretary, state conference delegate, national conference delegate (proxy), Administrative Committee and the state campaign committee. He is married with three children.
