The album was first released in Ireland on 25 June 1999 on ZTT Records and subsequently in the UK and USA later in the year. On this album the band returned to using their original name in place of the moniker The Frames DC employed on Fitzcarraldo.

The band's line-up for this album featured Glen Hansard on guitar and vocals, Colm Mac Con Iomaire on violin, Joseph Doyle on bass guitar and backing vocals, Dave Odlum on lead guitar, Earl Harvin and Graham Hopkins on drums. Doyle replaced Graham Downey on bass. The song "Seven Day Mile" appears in On the Edge, which was directed and co-written by former Frames bassist, John Carney. It also appeared near the end of House md Episode 1, Season 6. The song "Pavement Tune" is featured in commercials for the NBC show quarterlife.
