  • Dana Conrad Heitman is an American musician, best known for being the trumpet player for the Oregon rock/swing/ska band the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, of which he has been a member since the band's inception in 1989, having played trumpet and sometimes trombone on every one of their albums. Heitman was attending the University of Oregon when he was recruited into the Cherry Poppin' Daddies. A trained musician and member of several high school and college national merit bands, he helped develop the Daddies' prominent horn section, bringing an edge of jazz sophistication to the band's repertoire of funk and rock (Heitman is the only member of the Daddies' horn section to solo, as heard on such songs as "So Long Toots" and "White Trash Toodle-oo"). According to Daddies guitarist Jason Moss in regard to the band's songwriting process, Heitman is responsible for writing and arranging the majority of the Daddies' horn lines, either by himself or working off pieces composed by frontman and singer Steve Perry. After graduating from the university's school of music in brass instruments, Heitman continued his involvement with the Daddies, performing on each of their albums, including the multi-platinum 1997 record Zoot Suit Riot, receiving a Bach endorsement during the peak of the group's fame. When not touring with the Daddies, Heitman sits in with many local Oregon jazz and horn sections and has played in such local groups as Swing Shift, The Essentials, Satin Love Orchestra, Caliente, Lutes and Keller and The Omar Torrez Band. According to the Daddies' 1994 press bio, from a standing position, Heitman can jump up and kick the door jamb of a Ford truck twice with each foot without spilling his drink.
