He was named "Coach of the Year" in 2006 by National Football Events and is considered a pioneer and innovator in minor league football. Portwood retired last season and as owner, named Jackie Bridges as his successor. Jackie Bridges is considered a household name in minor league football and is the only Diesel player to have his number retired. In 2009, Portwood added Terri Manning as the teams General Manager Manning is now one of the few female GM's in the world of sports. In her tenure, Mrs. Manning is pushing the Dallas Diesel into the future by increasing recognition and reverence in the community. After butting heads with Portwood about player behavior standards, Manning resigned.
