Its internal development name was V100, under which it and its platform (not directly shared with any other model) are also known. Daewoo explained that the name Leganza originated from the combination of two Italian words - elegante (elegant) and forza (power).

Mit 4,67 m wuchs er gegenüber dem Vorgänger Espero um 6 cm. 2002 wurde der Nachfolger unter dem Namen Evanda in Europa und als Daewoo Magnus in Asien vorgestellt. In Russland gab es eine Schwestermarke von Daewoo unter dem Firmennamen Doninvest, wo der Leganza Doninvest Kondor hieß.
