- Dopo un passato di batterista straight edge H.C. e di rumorista, si dedica in seguito esclusivamente alla musica elettronica. È dj/produttore dal 1997, data in cui, reduce da una illuminante residenza londinese, inizia a mixare in Italia breakcore, genere di cui si dichiara "aperto fondamentalista". Seguendo rigidamente questo credo nel 2000 fonda Sonic Belligeranza etichetta discografica indipendente specializzata nella contaminazione di ritmiche "nere" e rumore dalla tradizione delle avanguardie "bianche", che si ritaglia immediatamente un seguito di nicchia. Logica conseguenza della sua attività di produttore, l'attività di djing in Italia e soprattutto in Europa. Nel 2004 apre le sotto-etichette +Belligeranza e -Belligeranza dedite rispettivamente a noise e turntablism. La critica musicale italiana lo ha definito "uno tra i più estrosi fantasisti del rumore nostrano" (Giancarlo Currò da Rockerilla ottobre 2005), o "il Kid 606 italiano" (Stefano Bianchi da Blow Up ottobre 2004), sottolineando il carattere "verace e controcorrente" (Vittore Baroni da Rumore, ottobre 2005) della sua ricerca. Mentre all'estero la prestigiosa rivista The Wire ha definito il suo sound "dastardly stuff" (Byron Coley sul numero dell'aprile 2008). Altri progetti associati a dj Balli: The wrong nigga to fuk wiz!, Bombolo Blues Band, The right WASP to play golf wiz! e In Skatebored We Noize!. Da sempre Riccardo Balli ha affiancato la sua attività sonica a quella letteraria collaborando con innumerevoli fanzine, siti web e riviste che si occupano di controcultura, fantascienza e musica elettronica. Per Castelvecchi Editore ha pubblicato un saggio all'interno dell'antologia "Nubi all'orizzonte" (1996) a cura del gruppo fiorentino Strano Network e, soprattutto, il libro "Anche tu astronauta" (1998) poi tradotto in Francia con il titolo "Quitter la Gravitè" per Edition du L'Eclat. Cura la rubrica mensile "Not For Intellectuals" per il tabloid Music Club e collabora a Datacide, rivista di "noise and politics" in lingua inglese.
- DJ Balli is the performing name of the Italian based breakcore artist Riccardo Balli. With a past as a drummer in the straight edge hardcore band "Isotopi del Dolore" and as a noise musician in the "S.E.B. " plunderphonics collective, at the beginning of the '90s Dj Balli lost interest for music to concentrate on writing. More solid result of this shift, the book in Italian language "Anche Tu Astronauta" (1998) about the Association of Autonomous Astronauts. Few years later in the 2000, the reconciliation with music came via the A.A.A. itself with the release of three tracks on the "Rave In Space" compilation cd. The year 2000 was also when he started his own label Sonic Belligeranza and began DJing more regularly. Bored with the average DJs, standing and playing one record after the other, Balli got involved into the more "adventurous" turntablism, melting his crab, flare and chirp scratch with digital glitch from the lap-top. In the year 2004 in response to the cliché indulged by of most of the breakcore sound he launched the two sublabels +Belligeranza and -Belligeranza dedicated to enrich his own (and hopefully many others djs one... ) set with, respectively, distorted frequencies and vinyl extravaganza. To hear it from his own words: "Modern, liberated, contemporary, of a broad spectrum, experimental, stress-relieving, post-organic, vegetative, intelligent, extraordinary. These are adjectives often applied to electronic dance music, with Dj Balli things are different".
