Domestic Animal Diversity Information System (DAD-IS) The Domestic Animal Diversity Information System (DAD-IS) is a "communication and information tool" for the management of animal genetic resources operated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). In June 2014 the Global Databank held information on 14869 breed populations from 182 countries, belonging to 8774 breeds and 35 mammalian and avian species. • Domestic Animal Diversity Information System (DAD-IS) The Domestic Animal Diversity Information System (DAD-IS) is a "communication and information tool" for the management of animal genetic resources operated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The backbone of DAD-IS is the Global Databank for Animal Genetic Resources. Data on national breed populations are entered into the system by the respective countries. The database can be searched for information about breeds and data can be analysed using built-in management tools. DAD-IS also includes a library of electronic publications and links and contact details for the National and Regional Coordinators for the management of Animal Genetic Resources. In June 2014 the Global Databank held information on 14869 breed populations from 182 countries, belonging to 8774 breeds and 35 mammalian and avian species. Data from the Global Databank is used for reporting on the global status and trends of animal genetic resources, including in the The Second Report on the State of the World’s Animal Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture and in biennial reports to the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture.
