Ordained in 1977 his first post was a curacy at Bicester after which he was Chaplain to the Bishop of Oxford, a Tutor at Codrington College (Barbados), Vicar of Taplow, Rural Dean of Chalke Valley and Canon Residentiary at Rochester Cathedral before his elevation to the Deanery. He was installed on 21 May 2005.
