When built, it was one of the first large houses in rural Cornwall built as a luxury home rather than a farmhouse, and one of the few Greek Revival buildings built of brick in the town. After over a century as a Cromwell family home, it was sold and became a teachers' retreat. It is currently operated as a bed and breakfast, with both properties available to guests. In 1996 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Von der aus vier Bauwerken bestehenden Anwesen sind zwei von Bedeutung: das 1820 im neoklassizistischen Stil erbaute und 1840 erweiterte Haupthaus und ein aus dem Jahr 1779 stammende Cottage mit dem Namen The Chimneys, das ursprüngliche Wohnhaus an der Stelle. Zum Zeitpunkt seiner Erbauung war Cromwell Manor eines der ersten größeren Häuser im ländlich geprägten Cornwall, eher luxeriös gestaltet denn als Farmhaus und eines der ersten aus Backsteinen gebauten neoklassizistischen Bauwerke in der Stadt. Nachdem es die Familie Cromwell mehr als ein Jahrhundert bewohnte, wurde es verkauft und in einen Ruhesitz für pensionierte Lehrer umgewandelt. Derzeit (2009) dient es als Bed and Breakfast.
