Various aspects of Marxist theory have been criticized. These criticisms concern both the theory itself, and its later interpretations and implementations. Criticisms of Marxism have come from the political left as well as the political right. Democratic socialists and social democrats reject the idea that socialism can be accomplished only through class conflict and a violent proletarian revolution.   • Various aspects of Marxist theory have been criticized. These criticisms concern both the theory itself, and its later interpretations and implementations. Criticisms of Marxism have come from the political left as well as the political right. Democratic socialists and social democrats reject the idea that socialism can be accomplished only through class conflict and a violent proletarian revolution. Many anarchists reject the need for a transitory state phase. Some thinkers have rejected the fundamentals of Marxist theory, such as historical materialism and the labor theory of value, and gone on to criticize capitalism - and advocate socialism - using other arguments. Some contemporary supporters of Marxism argue that many aspects of Marxist thought are viable, but that the corpus also fails to deal effectively with certain aspects of economic, political or social theory. They may therefore combine some Marxist concepts with the ideas of other theorists such as Max Weber: the Frankfurt school is one example.

  • Vários aspectos do marxismo são alvos de críticas. Diversos autores levantaram objeções ao pensamento político e filosófico de Karl Marx. A maior crítica feita ao Marxismo na atualidade alega que o mesmo possui um caráter simplista, seja na organização da sociedade em classes (capitalista e proletariado) e nas diversas interpretações da abordagem que Marx faz da inter-relação direta entre os fatores sociais de consciência (como cultura, religião e política) com os econômicos. A posição dos críticos é que Karl Marx e Friedrich Engels levavam a análise de todas as ações humanas para o campo da luta de classes, desconsiderando que há diversas ações humanas que não podem ser explicadas tão-somente por uma busca por melhores meios de produção ou por vantagens econômicas. Segundo alguns destes críticos as razões de caráter econômico também são insuficientes para explicar fenômenos modernos como a busca do homem pelo status ainda que este não venha a representar qualquer vantagem econômica, ou o crescimento da cultura das celebridades. Também depõem contra as idéias de Karl Marx o resultado histórico dos diversos regimes que foram influenciados o ideário político-ideológico do Marxismo, como a União Soviética, o regime castrista de Cuba e as chamadas "repúblicas vermelhas" do Sudeste Asiático.
