He was the President of the Provisional Presidium of the People's Republic of Romania from its proclamation on December 30, 1947 to April 13, 1948, and Chairman of the Presidium of the Great National Assembly of the People's Republic of Romania (head of state) from April 13, 1948 to June 12, 1952.
