Congregation Beth Israel, a Reform synagogue located at 615 Court Street in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, is one of the oldest synagogues in the United States. Among American Jewish congregations, only Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Synagogue has been in the same building longer. The synagogue was founded in 1849 by Jews of German background. Beth Israel's Colonial meeting house-style building was for many years the smallest synagogue in the United States, and possibly the world.
