- The Communist Party of the Portuguese Workers / Reorganizative Movement of the Party of the Proletariat is a Maoist political party in Portugal founded in 1970. In voting ballots its name appears as Communist Party of the Portuguese Workers, omitting the second part of the name; however its acronym remains unchanged. Its first secretary-general was Arnaldo Matos. Originally called MRPP only, the party's political orientation has been Maoist since its foundation. In 1971, still during the conservative and authoritarian dictatorship led by Marcello Caetano, the party started issuing a newspaper called Luta Popular (People's Struggle). The party was one of the most active resistance movements before the Portuguese democratic revolution of 1974, especially amongst the students of Lisbon. After the revolution, the MRPP achieved fame for its large and highly artistic mural paintings. It kept a very intense activity during the years of 1974 and 1975. At this time, the party had members that later came to be of high importance in national politics, for example, José Manuel Durão Barroso and Fernando Rosas, who left the party in the meantime. The party, however, never managed to elect a single MP in legislative elections. During the revolutionary period of 1974 and 1975, the MRPP was accused of working for the CIA - it was getting to a certain level of misconfort, because of its strength in society. A belief that was fueled by the cooperation between MRPP and the Socialist Party against the communist way defended by Portuguese Communist Party. In 1976, the party changed its name to Communist Party of the Portuguese Workers and it was then that it started to use the acronym PCTP/MRPP. Its historical leaders are Arnaldo Matos and Saldanha Sanches, the latter of whom directed the Luta Popular newspaper. Its current leader is Garcia Pereira. The party's youth wing, now extinct, was the Marxist-Leninist Students Federation.

Die 1970 gegründete Partei hatte ihren Höhepunkt kurz vor und nach der Nelkenrevolution 1974. Heute ist sie eine unbedeutende Kleinpartei in der linksdominierten portugiesischen Parteienlandschaft. Die Ursprünge der Partei gehen auf das Movimento Reorganizativo do Partido do Proletariado (MRPP) zurück, das am 18. September 1970 gegründet wurde, sein Generalsekretär war Arnalo Matos. Die Bewegung war damals vor allem bei Studenten und jungen Arbeitern im Lissabonner Raum populär. Bekannt war sie damals auch vor allem für ihre sowjetisch inspirierten Mauerbilder. Zu dieser Zeit hatte das MRPP auch seine bekanntesten Mitglieder, wie beispielsweise den ehemaligen portugiesische Premierminister und heutigen EU-Kommissionspräsidenten José Manuel Durão Barroso sowie den Präsidentschaftskandidaten des Bloco de Esquerda von 2001, Fernando Rosas. Direkt nach der Nelkenrevolution am 25. April 1974 wurde das MRPP von ihrem größten Gegner, der Kommunistischen Partei PCP, der Unterwanderung durch den CIA beschuldigt. Dies geschah aus Gründen der Diffamierung, waren doch sowohl das MRPP als auch die Sozialistischen Partei gegen den von der PCP propagierten und eingeschlagenen Weg des moskauhörigen Kommunismus in der portugiesischen Politik. Nach dem Kongress am 26. Dezember 1976 benannte sich das MRPP in Partido Comunista dos Trabalhadores Portugueses - Movimento Reorganizativo do Partido do Proletariado (PCTP/MRPP) um, weiterhin unter Führung von Arnaldo Matos. Die PCTP/MRPP spielte nie eine besondere Rolle nach 1974. Sie war noch nie im portugiesischen Parlament vertreten und erzielte – im Vergleich zu den großen Parteien – lediglich sehr geringe Stimmenanteile. Heute leitet der Jurist Garcia Pereira die Partei. Derzeit hat die Partei vor allem mit einem geänderten Parteiengesetz zu kämpfen, das eine Mindestmitgliederzahl von 5000 vorschreibt. Des Weiteren ist die linke Parteienkonkurrenz in Portugal sehr stark. Neben der Sozialistischen Partei, die derzeit die Regierung stellt, sind sowohl die Kommunisten, die Grünen als auch der Linksblock im Parlament vertreten. Die PCTP/MRPP gibt eine eigene Parteizeitung heraus, die „Luta Popular“ (dt. Volkskampf). Die Studentenorganisation Federação dos Estudantes Marxistas-Leninistas (dt. Marxistisch-Leninistische Studentenorganisation) hat sich inzwischen aufgelöst.

Fundat el 26 de desembre de 1976 a partir del MRPP, que havia estat fundat el 18 de setembre de 1970. El secretari general era Arnaldo Matos. L'òrgan central és el "Luta Popular", la primera edició del qual va sortir el 1971 (encara del MRPP). El MRPP va ser molt actiu abans de la Revolució dels Clavells de 1974, especialment entre estudiants i joves obrers de Lisboa. El MRPP - com el PCTP - va guanyar fama amb grans i vistoses pintures murals. Va continuar amb gran actividat durant 1974 i 1975. A les seves files hi havia membres que després, i havent-ne estat expulsats, han tingut gran relleu a la política portuguesa, com José Manuel Durão Barroso, avui al Partit Popular Democràtic / Partit Social Demòcrata (PPD-PSD) i Fernando Rosas, avui al Bloc d'Esquerra (BE). Després del 25 d'abril de 1974, el MRPP va ser acusat pel Partit Comunista Portuguès (PCP), "el pitjor enemic", de ser finançat per la CIA, idea basada, en parte, en la cooperació entre el MRPP i el Partit Socialista (PS), durant l'anomenat Estiu calent. A partir del 26 de desembre de 1976, el MRPP, després d'un congrés, es va passar a dir PCTP/MRPP. El líder històric és Arnaldo Matos. El primer director del "Luta Popular" (legal), Saldanha Sanches. L'actual líder és Luís Franco.

Después de la Revolución de los Claveles, el MRPP fue acusado por el PCP, "el peor enemigo", de estar financiado por la CIA, idea basada, en parte, en la cooperación entre el MRPP y el Partido Socialista, durante el llamado Verano caliente. A partir del 26 de diciembre de 1976, el MRPP, después de un congreso, pasó a llamarse PCTP/MRPP. El líder histórico es Arnaldo Matos. El primer director del "Luta Popular" (legal), Saldanha Sanches. El actual líder es Luís Franco.
