Collective Catharsis is a psychology term developed by Franz Fanon in his book Black Skin, White Masks. The idea being that, "in every society, in every collectivity, exists--must exist--a channel, an outlet through which the forces accumalated in the form of aggression can be released. " It greatly differs from the thought of catharsis in which one person would purify themselves of their aggression. Collective Catharsis is, as the term itself suggests, a group cleansing.

  • Collective Catharsis is a psychology term developed by Franz Fanon in his book Black Skin, White Masks. It would take an entire collection of people with either similar reasons for aggression, or a singular purpose for the release, and help to expel the pent up rage they may have.
