Their shows were frequently violent, involving vicious fights that often included stabbings and beatings with various weapons. Stories of these shows would spread throughout the Midwest punk and hardcore communities, contributing to the band's notoriety. Cold As Life drew musical influence from such bands as Negative Approach, Sheer Terror, Discharge, 4 Skins, Cro-mags, Black Sabbath and Slayer. In early 2007, a controversial reunion tour was organized by former members but featured Enzo (of fellow Detroit band Dogz of War) on vocals instead of co-founder and longest standing member Jeff Gunnells, who, after returning from a tour with Ramallah, informed drummer Bates that there was big demand in Europe for a Cold As Life reunion. Gunnells, a family man and a person who would not sacrifice self respect for money, declined the idea of a reunion, like so many bands latly have done. Bates, knowing that there was no formal copyright on the name Cold As Life and merchandise, copywrote the rights to the name, music and merchandise of the band in his name alone, gaining thousands of dollars and basically ripping off his co-founders; after embarking a tour of Europe. The bandcame full circle; feeding into what it fought against all along; Respect for your brothers and selling out for a buck.
