Sa musique marie le rock, l'électronique, le folk et divers styles de musiques brésiliennes. Née au Brésil, Cibelle s'est d'abord consacrée à une carrière de mannequin. Elle commence son parcours artistique à l'âge de 14 ans. Elle devient ensuite actrice pour des publicités télévisées et des films. Après des débuts remarqués dans l'album culte de Suba, São Paulo Confessions, Cibelle fait paraître un premier album portant son nom en 2003, qui la place comme l'une des jeunes artistes les plus imaginatives issues du Brésil. Son second album, The Shine Of Dried Electric Leaves (2006) lui permet de donner toute la mesure de ses multiples talents : Cibelle compose, joue, programme et se sert d'une palette de textures sonores pour créer un univers qui lui est propre. Co-réalisé par Mike Lindsay (Tunng) Apollo Nove, Yann Arnaud (Air, Syd Matters) et Cibelle elle-même, l'album accueille quelques invités remarquables : Devendra Banhart, Spleen et Seu Jorge. Cibelle s'est enracinée dans la scène indie-electro-folk-pop de Londres (où elle s'est installée en 2002 après avoir quitté son São Paulo natal). En 2006, elle a été invitée par David Byrne à participer au concert « Welcome To Dreamland » au Carnegie Hall de New York, qui regroupait les figures marquantes de la scène dite « freak folk » : CocoRosie, Devendra Banhart et Vetiver.
