The Chrysler TC by Maserati was a Chrysler K platform Grand tourer jointly developed by Chrysler and Maserati. It was introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 1986 but was not available until late 1989. The TC (Touring Coupe) was intended as a halo car for Chrysler. Only 7,300 TCs had been made when it was cancelled in 1991.

Iacocca avait repris la tête de la marque Chrysler alors en difficulté. Il cherchait des méthodes rapides pour redynamiser la marque. Doper la marque Chrysler par adjonction de composants et savoir-faire Maserati était la solution recherchée par Lee Iacocca. De multiples évolutions du cahier des charges rendirent le développement du modèle long et fastidieux. une version 2,2l 4 cyl. 8 soupapes 160 cv turbo intercooler (origine Chrysler) boite automatique 3V une version 2,2l 4 cyl. 16 soupapes double arbre 200 cv turbo intercooler (origine Chrysler, culasse Cosworth + Maserati) boite manuelle Getrag 5V une version 3l V6 12 soupapes 141 cv boite automatique 4V Le panaché comprenait : la caisse américaine, le moteur américain/anglais/italien ou japonais, la transmission américaine avec dans la version double arbre un peu d'allemand (Getrag), l'intérieur italien, les pneus français, l'électricité espagnole, la finition italienne. Trop peu d'éléments de différentiation entre la Maserati TC et la Chrysler LeBaron et un retard de lancement firent de ce modèle un échec.

Fu presentata nel 1986 al Salone dell'Auto di Los Angeles ma fu commercializzata solo a fine 1989. Nonostante il classico pentagono Chrysler fosse stato modicato per contenere un tridente, questa vettura di Maserati aveva ben poco, infatti il telaio era quello della Dodge Daytona accorciato, lo schema era motore anteriore-trazione anteriore, i motori erano un 4 cilindri 16 valvole Chrysler da 2200cc dotato di turbocompressore IHI e un V6 Mitsubishi da 3000cc da 141cv. Le modeste prestazioni unite alla cattiva immagine percepita dagli americani per il marchio Maserati che in quel periodo era stato sovente all'onore della cronaca per le Biturbo catalizzate che tendevano a incendiarsi, fecero sì che dalle 7.000 vetture annue previste si riuscì a venderne con molta fatica solo 7.300 in 2 anni e mezzo. La maggiore avversaria della TC era la Buick Reatta un'altra berlinetta con motore anteriore e trazione anteriore dotata di motore a 6 cilindri, come la TC era parzialmente costruita a mano. Ma la vettura per certi versi più simile alla TC è la Cadillac Allanté, altra vettura sviluppata in Italia da Pininfarina e parzialmente costruita a mano nel belpaese, le carrozzerie venivano costruite a Torino e spedite con uno speciale Boeing 747 ad Hamtramck nel Michigan dove venivano montate sui telai.
