In 2001, he played in Japan for the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks. Haney gave up Wade Boggs' 3,000th hit, a home run. After retiring from the MLB he returned to the town that he grow up in, Orange, Virginia. Haney is the son of major league catcher Larry Haney.
