Chris Flippin is a guitarist of the Southern California punk band Lagwagon. Chris Flippin spent his junior high years (at Goleta Valley Junior High) listening to bands such as Metallica, Armored Saint and Anthrax. He spent hours learning to play guitar in his bedroom which was in a two-bedroom apartment in Goleta, California. His mother was a single mom. Chris was a shy and very tall kid which got him much attention which he didn't like.

He spent hours learning to play guitar in his bedroom which was in a two-bedroom apartment in Goleta, California. His mother was a single mom. Chris was a shy and very tall kid which got him much attention which he didn't like. Everybody told him he should play basketball but he didn't have the coordination. He just wanted to play music. He played with his first band his sophomore year in high school (Dos Pueblos high school). The band was called Damascus Steel and only played one gig at Goleta Valley Junior high where the singer contracted a bad case of stage fright and wouldn't sing. The band played there set anyway and at the end of the set invited a friend on stage to sing a metallica song (seek and destoy). Chris bought his first car for fifty dollars at a high school automotive department auction. It was a mid seventies chevy stationwagon which chris thought would be a good band wagon to hual equipment to gigs. He got the idea to cut the entire roof off and spray paint German nazi symbols on the doors. He was pulled over for the first time in this vehicle for speeding and tried to evade the police by turning into a parking lot on the UCSB campus but the Police got him anyway and only let him off with a warning. This wasn't the only trouble he got in with this car. When he cut the roof off chris and a group of friends were caught dumping the roof and other pieces in an open field. The police officer again let him off with a warning and watched while chris and crew picked up the mess. Chris was out partying in the small university town called Isla Vista around the time of his departure of Damascus Steel armed with a portable stereo (boom box, Ghetto Blaster) and was playing Armored Saint when he came upon a group of punkers and entered into a debate which is better: punk or metal. The debate moved to the home of the punker's and there the debate and the playing of several punk albums lasted until the early hours of the next morning. It was then that chris was not only interested in metal but punk as well. Chris realized he needed money to support his musical career and to afford better gear. So chris got his fist job at McDonald's on Fairview Ave in Goleta. He worked there for a year or so. But had many problems with his hands from the constant washing to handle food. By this time Chris had shed his ties to his friends and started hanging out in the small college community next to UCSB called Isla Vista where his new group of punk and skate friends lived. There Chris was exposed to more and different types of music and formed with the original members of section eight. Which later broke up and reformed as lagwagon. The original "Lag Wagon" was a Short yellow bus that Chris and original members from section eight bought from the Goleta Valley Union School District. They bought this van sized bus to go on tour. One of the weirdest factoids about the bus was that on their first tour out with the bus they were rear ended by a speeding motorcycle while they were just driving along. The cyclist died at the scene.
