Chenoua is the Berber language of Jebel Chenoua in Algeria, just west of Algiers near Tipasa and Cherchell. It is very closely similar to the Berber speech of the Beni Menacer nearby, and the name is thus sometimes extended to refer to the Berber speech varieties of that whole area. According to the Ethnologue (2004) (whose figure is taken from the World Christian Database, 2000), it has 4,764 speakers.

Le chenoui — nommé « ha kbaylith » car le chenoui n'est que la variété parlée au mont chenoua — est parlé par les Berbères de la Dahra en Algérie, dans les régions, allant de Bou Ismaïl (40 km à l'ouest d'Alger) jusqu'à Ténès (200 km à l'ouest d'Alger,la répartition géographique s'étale sur trois wilayas : tipaza, chlef et une petite partie de ain defla, une petite partie de la kabylie du Dahra. C'est une langue berbère très proche du "tha kvaylith" d'Algérie de l'est, et encore plus proche du chaoui et du rifain, les trois langues étant d'origine zénète, elle connait un regain d'interet apparaissant au journal télévisé et à la radio comme seconde langue à radio chlef; mais elle reste l'un des moins connus des dialectes berberes algeriens, elle est réstée trés pure du fait de la topographie de la dahra et contient beaucoup d'archaismes par exemple : akhidhar pour cheval, nnzer pour nez,... etc
