The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) is one of a number of professional associations for accountants in the UK. CIPFA has more than 15,000 members and 3,000 students and is the only accountancy body that specialises in public sector accountancy. The Institute began life as the Corporate Treasurers’ and Accountants’ Institute in 1885, changing its name to the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy in 1973 when it obtained its Royal Charter.
