Syrian Chalcis was the birthplace of 3rd century AD Neoplatonist philosopher Iamblichus. It is thought to be the site of the modern town of Qinnasrin, though Anjar in Lebanon has also been suggested as the site of ancient Chalcis.

Chalkis liegt 25 Kilometer südlich von Aleppo und wenige Kilometer östlich der Autobahn Richtung Homs. Der Ort Chalkis war zur Zeit Jesu Mittelpunkt eines Fürstentums. Von 44 bis 48 n. Chr. wurde es als Königreich von Herodes von Chalkis regiert, der mit der berühmten Berenike, der späteren Geliebten des römischen Kaisers Titus, verheiratet war. Sein Nachfolger war der Bruder der Berenike, Herodes Agrippa II. Chalkis ist der Geburtsort des neuplatonischen Philosophen Iamblichos von Chalkis (* um 240 n. Chr.). In Chalkis besteht ein Titularbistum (Erzdiözese Chalcidensis, Calcide di Siria) der katholischen Kirche. Chalkis in Syrien ist nicht zu verwechseln mit der in der Antike ebenfalls Chalkis genannten Stadt Chalkida auf Euböa in Griechenland.
