From 1992 to 2004, he served as Executive Director of the Republican Party of Puerto Rico and led the Puerto Rico delegation to the Republican National Convention in 2000. In 2004, he was a member of the U.S. Presidential Delegation at the inauguration of Martin Torrijos, President of Panama. He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation. He is also a member of the Council of American Ambassadors. He is married to Helvetia Cabrera and has one daughter. He is of Hispanic ethnicity.
