Cell-Scape is the fifth album by Melt-Banana. It is mostly notable for featuring electronic elements and marking a shift to a more accessible, hi-fi sound. Cell-Scape also features some of the longest songs written by Melt-Banana with "Shield for Your Eyes" just barely goes on for 4 minutes which only a few more Melt-Banana songs have. This album is also even more accessible than the previous Teeny Shiny album. The ninth song has Yasuko singing with her "real" voice in the chorus.

Cell-Scape also features some of the longest songs written by Melt-Banana with "Shield for Your Eyes" just barely goes on for 4 minutes which only a few more Melt-Banana songs have. This album is also even more accessible than the previous Teeny Shiny album. The ninth song has Yasuko singing with her "real" voice in the chorus. The last track on the album is uncharacteristic of Melt Banana's typical musical style; it is a 10 minute long ambient song that is an entirely electronic soundscape. The song "Chain-Shot to Have Some Fun" was featured in an animated short movie called "Emily and the Baba Yaga". Debatebly, there was no drummer present on the recording of this album and all the drums were programmed in with a drum machine. Some of the patterns, however, were inspired by Dave Witte's drumming.

Le groupe entretient volontairement un mystère autour de l'identité du batteur qui a joué sur l'album, refusant de démentir les supputations de certains, qui pensent qu'il s'agiraitt en fait d'une boîte à rythmes, et faisant allusion à un hypothétique batteur ou boîte à rythmes japonais, La deuxième piste de l'album, Shield for Your Eyes, A Beast in the Well on Your Hand, dure près de 4 minutes, ce qui en fait l'une des plus longues du groupe. Chain-Shot to Have Some Fun apparaît dans un court film d'animation Emily and the Baba Yaga.
