Strengthened by the success of Hergé's comics, shortly after Casterman proposed new series with new authors such as Jacques Martin, François Craenhals and C. & V. Hansen. From 1954 on, Casterman published children's books as well, including the successful Martine books by Marcel Marlier. Keen to appeal to a more mature market, Casterman decided in 1973 to publish the first albums of Corto Maltese by the Italian author Hugo Pratt. Furthermore, in 1978 Casterman established its monthly magazine (A Suivre), which was to have an impact on the comics revival of the 1990s. Casterman ceased the publication of (A Suivre) in 1997. Casterman is now part of the Flammarion Publishing group, which in turn was bought by RCS MediaGroup (formerly Rizzoli-Corriere della Sera) of Italy. Casterman's manga series are published under the imprint Sakka.

Het bedrijf werd een naamloze vennootschap in 1907. In 1934 nam Casterman de publicatie over van de Kuifje-albums, meer bepaald vanaf het album de De sigaren van de farao. Vanaf 1942 werden alle albums in kleurendruk uitgegeven. Na het succes van de Kuifje-reeks volgden nog veel andere reeksen. Vanaf 1970 werden ook nieuwe markten aangeboord met reeksen als Corto Maltese. Drukkerij Casterman, herdoopt in Casterman Printing, is nu een onderdeel van de Evadix groep, uitgeverij Casterman is sinds 2004 onderdeel van de Flammarion groep.
