She is the daughter of retired Circuit Judge James Pickles, niece to Christina Pickles who appeared in Friends playing Judy Geller, and is the great-niece of Wilfred Pickles, a BBC personality. She is married to artist Tarquin Butler and has two daughters, Hettie and Lucy. She is rumored to have been cast as Professor Charity Burbage in the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
