- Der Cadillac XLR ist ein luxuriöses Cabriolet der US-amerikanischen Automarke Cadillac. Die Plattform und das Chassis stammt von der aktuellen Corvette C6 mit Transaxlebauweise. Mit dem XLR folgt General Motors dem Trend des Stahlfaltdachcabriolets, nachdem die konstruktiv ähnliche Mercedes-Benz SL-Klasse (R 230) erfolgreich in den Vereinigten Staaten gestartet war. Das Serienmodell basiert auf der Studie Evoq von 1999. Bei dem kantig-futuristischen Fahrzeugdesign wurden die amerikanischen Stealthfighter als Vorbild genommen (speziell der F-117 Tarnkappenbomber). Der XLR wurde offiziell auch in Deutschland von bestimmten Händlern angeboten, verkaufte sich allerdings nur sehr schwer. Offiziell wurden in Deutschland nur ca. 100 Exemplare verkauft, was den XLR zu den am seltensten zugelassenen Fahrzeugen macht. Der Einstiegspreis lag bei 109.950 Euro und war damit mit Abstand das teuerste Modell der Cadillac-Modellpalette. Als einziges Extra wurde die Metalliclackierung angeboten. Ausgestattet war der XLR mit dem aus Leichtmetall gefertigten Northstar V8 LH2 DOHC 4,6-l-Motor mit variabler Ventilsteuerung (VVT), der bis zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt (Stand 2012) die höchste technische Entwicklungsstufe aller konstruierten General Motors-V8-Motoren darstellte und zugleich das technologische Aushängeschild für das gesamte GM-Motorenprogramm war. Gleichzeitig markierte die LH2-Version den finalen Endpunkt der Northstarmotoren-Produktion, da diese wegen der kostenintensiven Entwicklung und Herstellung in Juni 2010 eingestellt wurden und seitdem auf die herstellungstechnisch einfacheren Chevrolet-LS-OHV Motoren ausgewichen wird. Durch die Transaxlebauweise wurde eine Gewichtsverteilung von 50:50 erreicht (ähnlich wie bei der Corvette C6), was zu mehr sportlich-neutraleren Fahrzeugverhalten bei der Fahrdynamik führen soll. Eine Besonderheit ist das vom Designer Bulgari gestaltete Armaturenbrett mit Echtholzapplikationen aus Eukalyptusholz. Des Weiteren ist der XLR mit einem Head-Up-Display ausgestattet, das Informationen zu Geschwindigkeit, Fahrtstrecke und Navigation auf die Windschutzscheibe projiziert. Zu der weiteren serienmäßigen Ausstattung gehörten u. a. DVD-Navigation und Entertainmentsystem mit Touchscreen-Display, Bose-Soundsystem mit 9 Lautsprechern, Abstandsradar, gekühlte Becherhalter, PDC (Einparkhilfe) und klimatisierte/belüftete Sitze. Die Klimaanlage klimatisiert durch eine thermoelektrische Keramikscheibe die Lufttemperatur im Fahrzeug innerhalb von einer Minute um jeweils 15 Grad, was zu den schnellsten seiner Klasse gehört. Der XLR verfügt zudem serienmäßig über das adaptive Dämpfungssystem Magnetic-Selective-Ride-Control. Unkonventionell sind auch die Türen, die ohne Türgriffe ausgestattet sind - diese lassen sich durch einen Drucksensor elektronisch öffnen. Auch besitzt der XLR serienmäßig das Keyless-Go System – am Fahrercockpit ist kein Zündschloss angebracht (stattdessen das Keylesssystem mit der Startdrucktaste). Durch den konsequenten Einsatz verschiedener Verbundmaterialien – unter anderem besteht die elektro-hydraulische Klappdach-Konstruktion aus einer Magnesiumlegierung – beläuft sich das Gewicht auf rund 1,6 Tonnen. Die Fahrgastzelle wurde in einer Sandwichbauweise unter anderem mit speziell aufbereiteten Balsaholz eingebettet - angelehnt an die von der NASA eingesetzten Technologie zum Absorbieren der Aufprallenergie von Raumsonden.
