Cadillac nutzte den Namen Brougham bereits seit 1916 zur Benennung eines viertürigen Limousinenmodells. In den 1950er Jahren wurde die Bezeichnung für den besonders luxuriösen Eldorado Brougham-Viertürer, ab Modelljahr 1966 für eine teurere Variante des 60 Special und dessen Nachfolger Cadillac Fleetwood verwendet. Als zum Modelljahr 1985 der Fleetwood (gemeinsam mit dem Cadillac DeVille) verkleinert und auf Frontantrieb umgestellt wurde, wurde der bisherige Fleetwood Brougham als eigenständiges Modell im Cadillac-Sortiment weitergeführt und ab Modelljahr 1987 einfach Cadillac Brougham genannt; das große Modell mit Hinterradantrieb blieb bis 1992 in Produktion und wurde im Herbst 1992 durch den wieder auf Heckantrieb umgestellten Cadillac Fleetwood auf der General Motors-D-Plattform abgelöst, der mit dem Chevrolet Caprice der Zeit verwandt war.
