Das CIDOC CRM unterstützt außerdem die Erarbeitung von Anforderungen an Informationssysteme und kann als Richtschnur oder Hilfe für gute semantische Modellierung, Daten- oder Datenbankmodellierung dienen. Die Anwendung von Techniken wie XML und RDF werden vom CIDOC CRM unterstützt.

Keskuksen tarkoituksena on kulttuurien välisen kulttuuriperinnön tallentaminen dokumentoimalla se käytettävissä olevin keinoin. CIDOC on antanut nimen myös museoiden käyttämälle kansainväliselle semanttinen web -dokumentointistandardille CIDOC CRM ISO 21127:2006. CIDOC CRM (CIDOC Conceptual Reference Model) on johtava standardi kulttuuriperinnön tallennuksessa ja luokittelussa. Järjestelmää on laajennettu mm. MPEG-7 -standardilla.
