  • C31 Adelaide is a community television station broadcasting in Adelaide, South Australia on the Channel 31 frequency since April 23, 2004. Previous to C31, Adelaide's community television station was run by Adelaide Community and Education Television Inc. , or ACE TV (sometimes known as "ACE Channel 6", despite broadcasting on UHF 31). ACE TV held a temporary licence from May 1994 until December 2002, when it was cancelled due to breaches of its licence conditions. ACE TV last broadcast in May 2002. Some local and interstate content is shown, such as Cool Zone. Programs such as News Hour from VOA are regularly shown. Unlike the community television operators in the other capital cities, who were granted permanent licences in 2004, C31 Adelaide continues to operate on a temporary licence issued by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA). An application process was conducted for the allocation of a permanent community licence in Adelaide in 2004-2005; neither of the two applicants, one being C31 Adelaide, was considered suitable. No permanent licence was allocated, and C31's licence was extended from its original 2006-07-04 date. The future of a permanent community licence in Adelaide remains unclear, as ACMA awaits "further developments in the policy framework for digital television" before deciding whether to advertise the licence. On June 13, 2007, ACMA announced plans to further extend C31 Adelaide's trial to until July 4, 2008.
