Buncrana is a town in north County Donegal, Ireland. It is beside Lough Swilly on the Inishowen peninsula, 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from Derry and 43 kilometres (27 mi) from Letterkenny. It is the second largest town in County Donegal and the largest on Inishowen. In the 2006 Census, the population of Buncrana was 5,911 (including the rural hinterland). Buncrana is the historic home of the Ó Dochartaigh clan and was once an important defensive site, with Neds Point Fort nearby.
