Naast voorstellingen (vaak avant-premières) van "fantastische films" op verschillende locaties in Brussel zijn er ook randevenementen zoals tentoonstellingen, maquillage- en bodypainting-wedstrijden, of een vampierenbal. Het festivalcentrum is het Auditorium van de Passage 44 aan de Kruidtuinlaan in Brussel. Het festival is uitgegroeid tot een toonaangevend evenement in zijn genre, met jaarlijks ca. 100 langspeelfilms op het programma, en meer dan 60.000 bezoekers. Op het festival wordt veel ruimte gegeven aan de minder commerciële films, die weinig kans maken om via de normale distributiekanalen in de bioscoopzalen vertoond te worden. Tijdens het festival worden ook prijzen uitgereikt, waarvan de belangrijkste de Gouden Raaf is voor de beste film (de Raaf verwijst naar het gedicht The Raven van Edgar Allan Poe).

Les films en compétition sont des films d’horreur, des Modèle:Lang et des films de science-fiction. Il se déroule à Bruxelles, tous les ans au mois d'avril. Jusqu'en 2006 le festival se déroulait au mois de mars mais en 2007 le festival a été obligé de se délocaliser, l'ancienne salle du Passage 44 devant subir une rénovation profonde. C'est le site de Tour & Taxis, toujours à Bruxelles, qui a été choisi pour y installer tous les ans une salle de cinéma temporaire pouvant accueillir le festival. Désormais et depuis 2007, le festival se déroule au mois d'avril. Le nom du festival varie beaucoup selon les sources et les traductions. Le nom officiel étant Modèle:Lang, uniquement en anglais. Les noms des prix internationaux sont aussi uniquement en anglais, sauf le prix Méliès.
