Although the history of ship building in what is now the outskirts of Split, is a thousand years old, it was not until 1922 that the "Brodosplit" Shipyard Company was founded by a few merging minor remount shipyards in the area. It has been in its current location since 1932, after what it grew into one of Croatia's largest shipyards. Significant development and export orientation has been recorded in the latter half of the 20th century.
