- Broadcasting House is the headquarters and registered office of the BBC in Portland Place and Langham Place, London, England. Architect George Val Myer designed the building in collaboration with the BBC's civil engineer, M T Tudsbery. The interiors are the work of the Australian-Irish architect Raymond McGrath. He set up and directed a team that included Serge Chermayeff and Wells Coates and designed the vaudeville studio, the associated green and dressing rooms, and the dance and chamber music studios in a flowing Art Deco style. It was later said of his efforts that "the designs for the BBC gave the first real fillip to industrial design in England". Broadcasting House was officially opened on May 14, 1932 and is now grade II* listed. At the front of the building are statues of Prospero and Ariel by Eric Gill. Their choice was fitting since Prospero was a magician, and Ariel, a spirit of the air, in which radio waves travel. There was, reportedly, controversy over some features of the statues when first built and they were said to have been subsequently modified. They were reported to have been sculpted by Gill as God and Man, rather than simply Prospero and Ariel, and that there is a small carved picture of a beautiful girl on the back part of Prospero's statue. Other sources claim that Gill intended them as God the Father and Son, as supported by the fact that the statue of Ariel has stigmata. Val Myer ve spolupráci s pracovníkem BBC M. T. Tusdberym. Broadcasting House byl slavnostně otevřen 14. května 1932. U vstupu do budovy stojí sochy Prospera a Ariela z Shakespearovy hry Bouře sochaře Erika Gilla. V budově sídlilo BBC Radio Theatre – kde byly nahrávány hudební a mluvené programy (typicky komedie pro BBC Radio 4). V Broadcasting House probíhá v současné době rekonstrukce, která má být ukončena na přelomu roků 2009 a 2010. Součástí reorganizace BBC je i to, že se tato budova má stát sídlem BBC News, národního rádia a BBC World Service. Hlavní části rekonstrukce má být zboření dvou poválečných přístaveb a výstavby nové budovy poblíž původní stavby. Architektem této úpravy je MacCormac Jamieson Prichard. V průběhu přestavby se některé části BBC přestěhovaly do budov v blízkém okolí na Portland Place.

For tiden undergår komplekset en omfattende renovering og utbygging, som skal være ferdig i 2011. Da skal Broadcasting House også bli sete for BBC News (både radio og fjernsyn; nå i BBC Television Centre), BBC Radio og BBC World Service. I forbindelse med renoveringen ble to tilbygg fra etterkrigstiden revet i 2005, og samtidig ble en ny bygning ferdigstilt.

Gmach został wzniesiony jako siedziba BBC i do dzisiaj pozostaje oficjalnym adresem korporacji, wymienianym m. in. w jej rejestracji sądowej. Faktycznie mieszczą tu aktualnie trzy stacje radiowe: BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 4 i BBC Radio 7, a także BBC Radio Theatre (teatr radia BBC, dysponujący m. in. studiem do nagrywania słuchowisk z udziałem publiczności) i kanał telewizyjny BBC Persian. BBC Radio 2 i BBC 6 Music nadają z położonego w bezpośrednim sąsiedztwie budynku Western House, zaś BBC Radio 1 i BBC 1Xtra ze znajdującego się równie blisko Yalding House. W 2005 rozpoczęła się przebudowa Broadcasting House, polegająca na renowacji jego starej części i budowie zupełnie nowego skrzydła (tzw. Egton Wing). Choć oficjalne otwarcie nowej części nastąpiło już 20 kwietnia 2006, w praktyce budowa zostanie ukończona najprawdopodobniej w roku 2011. Gdy to nastąpi, do Broadcasting House mają przenieść się wszystkie stacje radiowe BBC, w tym BBC World Service, a także redakcje wszystkich serwisów informacyjnych BBC - telewizyjnych, radiowych i internetowych, które obecnie mieszczą się w BBC Television Centre. Nazwę Broadcasting House nosi także jedna z produkowanych w gmachu audycji radiowych, emitowana na antenie BBC Radio 4. 27 lutego 2009 irlandzka grupa U2 wystąpiła na scenie ustawionej na dachu budynku. Choć dwudziestominutowy minikoncert nie był wcześniej oficjalnie zapowiadany, obejrzało go ok. 5 tysięcy osób, w większości przypadkowych przechodniów. Występ był transmitowany na żywo na antenie BBC Radio 1.
