Obwohl Moore manchen als Agnostiker galt, lässt sich seine Position zum Christentum, geprägt von irischen Zuständen, als kritischer Katholizismus betrachten, der sich der modernen Welt stellt. Er erhielt zahlreiche Literaturpreise wie den Prix littéraire du Québec (1958) oder den Hughes Irish Fiction Award (1988). Moore war Mitglied bei Aosdána.
