Brest Ghetto or Brześć Ghetto was created soon after the German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1941. The town of Brest was annexed from Poland by the Soviet Union following the Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939. The Germans invaded the Soviet Union in summer 1941, and in the winter, on 16 December 1941, a Jewish ghetto was created in the city. Soon afterwards, in January 1941, first underground resistance organizations were formed among Jews in the ghetto.
