Eric's unwillingness to become a parent eventually fades as Scot teaches Eric about accepting and loving your true self. The screenplay was adapted by Sean Reycraft from the book by Michael Downing, and the film was directed by Laurie Lynd. The film attracted significant press attention in 2006, when the National Hockey League and the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that they had approved the use of the team's logo and uniforms in the film. Breakfast with Scot was the first gay-themed film ever to receive this type of approval from a professional sports league. Breakfast With Scot premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2007. The film was released on DVD in Canada by Mongrel Media in March 2008. Breakfast With Scot was the closing night film at Frameline, the San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival, on June 29, 2008. Breakfast With Scot was released in the U.S. by Regent Releasing in select cities from October 2008. Breakfast with Scot won the Globola Award for the best international movie at the Lesbisch-Schwule Filmtage Hamburg (Lesbian/Gay Movie Days) in October 2008. Breakfast with Scot won the Team Family Feature Film award from the Directors Guild of Canada, November 2008.
